Rescue Dog

by admin on Sep.29, 2009, under Great Posts

I just rescued a dog that is 4 years old.  He is a little beagle and is learning to adapt to our life style.  He appears to have containment anxiety as he does not like to be gated off in the house when we are not home.  I noticed that he will break through the gates and try to get outside.  Unfortunately, he is not housebroken, so I cannot let him roam the house freely.  After doing some research about this, I found out that some dogs have a fear of being confined.  I started to put him outside during the day while we are not home and he loves it!  He is calm and lounges on the patio and deck.  I have put a dog house outside for him which he uses constantly.  I am also looking at different dog beds for small dogs to place inside his house to keep him warm.  The interesting part about him is that when we are home, he has no problem staying with us and not going past the gate he has broken!   At night, he sleeps on the floor of our bedroom on a blanket, but I am looking for a dog bed for him in there as well.  He could sleep on the bed, but he has tried several times, but just jumps off.  I have never had a dog like this, but I am learning to adapt to his needs.

Big 4 Sports

by admin on Sep.28, 2009, under Uncategorized

My favorite sport of the traditional big 4 sports (basketball, baseball, football, and hockey) is baseball.  My whole family has been big baseball fans for as long as I can remember, and I truly think I was born with this trait.  I enjoy the precision of baseball – mere inches or even less can be the difference between an out and a home run, or between a ball or a strike.  I like the excitement of watching a great pitching performance, or a wonderful play made in the field.  The sport is exciting if you understand it well and know what a truly outstanding performance looks like.  Many people find baseball to be boring, but I maintain that these people simply don’t understand enough about the sport to know what they’re watching and to truly appreciate it.  Many people find a 0-0 game to be boring, but these can often be the most exciting games if they consist of two great pitchers each having great performances.

Riding Horses is Fun

by admin on Sep.24, 2009, under Uncategorized

My favorite thing to do in my spare time is to ride my horse, or spend time at the barn or at horse shows.  This is an activity I have participated in for 16 years, which is more than half of my life.  It’s an activity I know well, and I love it.  It’s relaxing for me to be at the barn, and I enjoy being at the barn and at horse shows to see my good friends, which I have dubbed “my barn family.”  They are truly like family to me, and many of my closest horse friends are people I see much more often than many members of my extended family.  I wouldn’t trade my friends for the world, and this is truly my favorite activity – anything involving riding or showing my horse, or watching my friends ride or show their horses.

Grilled Pork Roast

by admin on Sep.22, 2009, under Uncategorized

The best dinner I have had recently was made on the grill.  It consisted of a pork roast, marinated in barbeque sauce, potatoes and onions chopped up and with butter and garlic salt on them, and corn on the cob.  All of these items were prepared on the grill, and it was a very tasty meal!  I really like to eat grilled foods, and grilled corn on the cob is one of my favorite foods when it’s done properly and not burned.  This dinner in particular had a lot of wonderful flavor, from all three of the dishes that we ate, and it was one of my favorites!
