Take me back to the Paradise City

by admin on Mar.29, 2011, under Uncategorized

I have often questioned the meaning of life and where I stand in this universe. I will admit these questions have represented themselves in the form of depression quite often as well. And every time I find myself in this situation, the only thing I realize can make me feel better is reconnecting with nature. I get tied down to work and after a while the sights and sounds of the city start to nauseate me. So, I take a short trip to more natural surroundings. I try to wake up early and catch the sunrise. I also carry my camera along; this makes me feel good because I can save and revisit these images of natural beauty.

Making a difference

Hoverfly (Xanthogramma pedissequum)

I recently saw a short film called ‘1 minute fly’ on Youtube which got me thinking. The film follows a flying insect that has a lifespan of just one minute. The flying insect has a huge list of things that he would like to accomplish in this short period of time. I realized that I am wasting my time on this beautiful planet. From today, I am going to make a greater effort to improve my community and society at large. My plan is to start small by becoming an assistant to a local politician. I will then exert my influence to put forth a plan to reduce pollution and improve quality of life. I will also spearhead the local ‘green’ movement by promoting recycling and tree planting.

A game for all seasons

by admin on Mar.22, 2011, under Uncategorized

As a child, my favorite game was hide-and-seek. I remember I used to live in a large apartment complex and used to have quite a few friends. Rain or shine, we would meet every evening in the central garden and play this game. Often, we would get so engrossed in hide-and-seek that our parents would angrily drag us home. This game taught me the importance of team-work and perseverance. Some of the kids I used to play with are my good friends to this very day. Maybe it was the magic of hide-and-seek that kept the bond between friends strong.

How reading changed my life

Robert Heinlein, L. Sprague de Camp, and Isaac...

I have always been a voracious reader. As a child I devoured authors like Sidney Sheldon, Robin Cook, Stephen King and Isaac Asimov. However, there was one book that truly changed my life. It was ‘Shantaram’ by Gregory David Roberts. It is the story of the author’s life. And what a life! It starts with him imprisoned in Australia. Then progresses onto his escape and subsequent adventures in India. I love the book because it seems very human. The author has a big heart and it shows in the writing. It taught me to be compassionate towards others who are not as blessed as me. I hope to one day meet the author and thank him for changing my life.
